Weekly Spotlight: Oeno Pinot Noir

The Russian River Valley, found in the heart of Sonoma County, has long set the standard for Californian, and perhaps New World Pinot Noir. Oeno Wines is proudly upholding the track record.

Oeno Wines, pronounced ee-no, is owned by Amy Atwood, who also heads the wine import and distribution company, Amy Atwood Selections. Oeno wines are crafted from 15- to 20-year-old vines, carefully nurtured in the River Front Block, located within the Russian River American Viticultural Area (AVA).

In executing her vision, Amy sought to locate the finest of Sonoma County vineyards, along with partnering with a like-minded winemaker to produce each wine to her specification. Her guidelines: start with pristine fruit, and then use native yeasts and neutral oak in the winemaking process.

Oeno’s Pinot Noir is medium-bodied and brims with wonderfully bright cherry and cranberry flavors. Earthy undertones balance out the delicate notes of red fruit, keeping this wine light and elegant.

As it happens, Oeno is more than just a moniker. Derived from the ancient Greek word for wine, Oeno is likewise the name of an ancient Greek goddess with a remarkable talent – turning water into wine.
