Women in Wine and Spirits: Stefanie Jurtschitsch

Post image

Stefanie and Alwin Jurtschitsch are the 5th generation of innovators running Austria’s Weingut Jurtschitsch.

The couple has led the family estate since 2010- upholding a tradition of rich winemaking while implementing sustainable, future-focused systems. They aim for a classic style of Kamptal wines with finesse that balance ripe fruit and fresh acidity. The Jurtschitschs are leaders of the natural wine movement in the region and have converted all the vineyards of the estate to organic viticulture.

Stefanie manages winemaking with spontaneous fermentations and minimal sulfur. Her goal is to create wines that are cool and elegant while maintaining as much of their authenticity, complexity, and terroir-specificity as possible.
