A Look Back At Giving Back — Our Social Responsibility Report Card

We call ourselves “a neighborhood wine and spirits shop.” There’s a reason why “neighborhood” is there. We pride ourselves in giving back to our community whenever we can. With Thanksgiving and Giving Tuesday (11/27) right around the corner, we figured it would be the perfect time to take stock of what we’ve done—sharing our activities publicly keeps us accountable by benchmarking each contribution. Our goal is to do more every year and to inspire you to join us—because giving feels great.

Green Hill School
We supported this small local school by donating to their annual fundraiser (for the third year in a row!).

New York Deaf Theatre
We contributed wine to the silent auction that benefits New York’s only Deaf theatre company.

BARC Animal Shelter
To take advantage of spring cleaning, we encouraged customers to bring in their old blankets and towels. We then took those all at once to give to the shelter.

Family Separation March Sign Discount
To incentivize and reward participation in a march protesting family separation, we offered 10% discounts to those who brought their signs into the shop.

Myrtle Village Green
We donated a gift card to the second annual Harvest Festival at our beloved community garden, located on Myrtle between Kent and Franklin.

ICL Tillary Street Women’s Shelter
Our neighbor on Myrtle Ave, Jill Lindsey, hosted a hit fundraiser with their Local Love event which benefited the ICL Tillary Street Women’s Shelter to supply necessities for the shelter’s residents. We donated wine to the auction and a matching gift of $200.

I Voted Sticker Discount
All customers wearing their “I Voted” stickers got a 5% discount for their participation in our democracy.

Riders’ Alliance
For the fifth year in a row, we put together a “Brooklyn Bar Stocker” made up of Brooklyn-made spirit and a gift card to support the only advocacy organization that fights for public transportation on behalf of the people who use it.

Thanksgiving Turkeys on Myrtle Ave
We donated cash to the incredible Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership to make sure needy families in our community have a turkey for their holiday meal.

Social Tees
On Thanksgiving Day, we’re matching customer donations to Social Tees, an animal rescue that has been working with a partner in California to rehome animals affected by the terrible Camp Fire.

We also offer generous discounts to nonprofits that need wine for their fundraising events and though we can’t give to everyone, we’re happy to highlight local fundraisers in our newsletter. If you represent an organization in the area, don’t hesitate to reach out!

We hope you’ve learned about an organization that inspires you to help!

Happy Thanksgiving!
